Project 50/50/50

Fifty days with the Fujifilm GFX 50R, and GF 50mm F3.5

A while back, I was looking around for some photography inspiration, not so much for weddings, but something to give me some direction on the fact that I use my cameras almost every day, whether it’s photos of my family, out and about, gigs, food, just about anything!

So, I turned as I always do to Instagram, and to websites by some of my favourite photographers. On Instagram I noticed that Bert Stephani , a brilliant photographer from Belgium, had chosen to revisit a project where he shot for 50 days, with a 50mm equivalent lens. It had been 10 years since he did it originally, and he invited anyone who wanted to do it to join in, using the hashtag #5050project10.

A number of photographers I really respect had joined in, like Jonas Rask, so I thought i’d give it a go.

I put my own twist on it, and made it 50/50/50. I would use my Fujifilm GFX50R, with the new GF50mm F3.5 for 50 days, and nothing else, apart from days where I had weddings where I had to use other gear. It’s a medium format camera as well, which I guess added to the project. Here it is below, aint it a beauty?

What I didn’t really think about was the time of year I was starting it- the Scottish ‘Summer’ was over, and the nights were earlier, the weather wasn’t great, and some days it would be a real challenge to photograph anything, well- at least anything which I thought would be worthwhile. Hey- thats a challenge yeah?

As it turned out, it made me think of something I always refer back to.

’There’s always something to photograph’

I posted on Instagram for 50 days, which also linked to my Facebook page. This led to many people becoming a ‘Top Fan’ on Facebook which made me laugh a lot- what a ridiculous thing that is on there!

I will revisit it in a few years maybe- be interesting to see what’s changed in my life for the next one.

Looking back at it, it’s 50 days of my life in 2019. It started and ended at home as well, with the last photo being the 3 most important people in my life. My Girls.

I’d also thoroughly recommend the set up- if you have a GFX camera and are thinking of buying the GF50mm, do it…..do it…..do it!

Thanks for all the comments, likes, shares etc on Instagram and Facebook, give me a follow on there if you like!

What do you think of the project? Please leave a comment below, I’d love to see anyone’s thoughts!

So, 50 days. 50 photographs. With the GFX50R, and GF50mm F3.5.
